NGJ Brand Solutions and THINK Fitness Win 2015 Arthur Jones Award

Los Angeles, CA, April 2015

NGJ Brand Solutions and Japan partner, Think Fitness were presented with the prestigious Arthur Jones Award at IHRSA 2015 by CORE Fitness executives, Mr. Merrill Richmond, VP Marketing, and Mr. Frank O Rourke, VP International Sales, Latin America and Asia Pacific.  NGJ Brand Solutions executives, Mr. Gregory Zink and Jerald Downen accepted the award on their mutual behalf.

Mr. Zink said, “Think Fitness’ dedication to the Nautilus brand and outstanding content marketing featuring Arthur Jones has been the cornerstone of the strong brand recognition and sales of Nautilus in Japan. Eiji Tezuka and his team at Think have worked closely with us and have done an excellent job of educating the market on Mr. Jones’s Nautilus training principles, tips and training secrets.”

2015 Arthur Jones Award Winners: NGJ and ThinkMr. Richmond commented on NGJ Brand Solutions’ positive influence on the Nautilus brand and the brand of Arthur Jones “as a powerful corporate brand icon.” Mr. Richmond said, ” Everyone at IHRSA has been influenced by Arthur Jones, because before Arthur there was no fitness industry.”

Mr. O Rourke said, “Arthur Jones was highly controversial. Scientists, professors and athletic coaches were convinced Arthur ‘s concept of Nautilus would never work.  Yet, all that changed in 1972 when the Miami Dolphins National Football League Team, under the training direction of Arthur, won the Super Bowl.  Suddenly Mr. Jones’ critics suddenly became fans of his Nautilus system of machines, training and education.”

At Mr. Richmond’s request, Mr. Downen entertained the crowd by sharing several of his favorite Arthur Jones experiences. Mr. Zink discussed Arthur’s rationale for using the West Point Military Academy as a study group, ” a very radical approach, yet an approach that Arthur knew would work and revolutionize training concepts around the world.”

Mickey The GorillaVia Skype from Tokyo, NGJ Brand Solutions President, Kimitane Sohma, spoke about visiting Arthur’s large home in Florida. “As I entered the living room, Arthur Jones pulled a curtain to reveal Mickey, a 180 kilo gorilla, screaming and pounding his chest. I remembered seeing Nautilus posters featuring Mickey on the Pullover Machine, but I was shocked to actually see and hear Mickey in his cage located in Mr. Jones’s living room. Fortunately, Arthur’s wife, Terry, was very calm and promised me Mickey’s cage was very secure, ” said Mr. Sohma. “I was still shaking when Arthur showed me his airplane fleet, painted with big blue Nautilus logos.”

Mr. Sohma added, “I can tell you this. The only person in the world who believed in our concept for the Tokyo Nautilus Academy was Arthur. We were always told by Americans and Japanese that the Nautilus Academy would never succeed.  Arthur was our biggest cheerleader.”

Mr. O Rourke and Mr. Zink are looking forward to co-presenting the Arthur Jones Award to the THINK Fitness team at Sportec 2015 in July in Tokyo. “We sincerely wish Mr. Tezuka was here at IHRSA to co-accept this award, but we promise to share this award with him soon.”
